¿Qué es Project ECHO®?
El Proyecto ECHO (Extensión para Resultados de Atención Médica Comunitaria) es un programa de tele-tutoría basado en la web creado por primera vez por el Dr. Sanjeev Arora y el equipo de la Universidad de Nuevo México en los Estados Unidos. Ahora se ha replicado en los EE. UU. Y en todo el mundo, con más de 100 socios globales en más de 20 países. Es un movimiento para desmonopolizar el conocimiento y ampliar la capacidad local para brindar la mejor atención médica a las personas desatendidas de todo el mundo.
¿Resúmenes de conocimientos para la prevención y el control del cáncer de mama (KSBC)?

What is Project ECHO®?
Project ECHO (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) is a web-based tele-mentoring program first created by Dr. Sanjeev Arora and team at the University of New Mexico in the U.S. It has now been replicated across the U.S. and globally, with 100+ global partners in 20+ countries. It is a movement to demonopolize knowledge and amplify local capacity to provide best practice care for underserved people all over the world. What is Project ECHO for the
Knowledge Summaries for Breast Cancer Prevention and Control (KSBC)?
The objectives of the Project ECHO for the KSBC is to strengthen knowledge about how to use the phased implementation strategies within the KSBC in development and implementation of breast cancer control policies and programs.
Introductory session for Project ECHO for KSBC will be held October to December 2018. The formal sessions will begin in January 2019 and last for 6 months. Project ECHO sessions will last one hour and will be held every 2-4 weeks.

Premio Internacional de Desarrollo y Educación (IDEA)
Las solicitudes comienzan el 1 de agosto de 2018 y vencen el 31 de octubre de 2018
El Premio Internacional de Desarrollo y Educación (IDEA, por sus siglas en inglés) brinda apoyo a los oncólogos de carrera temprana en países de bajos y medianos ingresos y facilita el intercambio de conocimientos entre estos oncólogos y los miembros de ASCO. El programa une a los destinatarios de IDEA con un miembro líder de ASCO "Mentor", permite a los destinatarios asistir a la reunión anual de ASCO, participa en una visita posterior a la reunión a la institución de su mentor y desarrolla relaciones a largo plazo para mejorar la atención del cáncer en sus países. Además, los destinatarios de IDEA también recibirán tres años de membresía ASCO de cortesía, incluida una suscripción al Journal of Clinical Oncology.

International Development and Education Award (IDEA)
Applications start August 1, 2018, and are due October 31, 2018
The International Development and Education Award (IDEA) provides support for early-career oncologists in low- and middle-income countries and facilitates the sharing of knowledge between these oncologists and ASCO members. The program pairs IDEA Recipients with a leading ASCO member “Mentor”, enables Recipients to attend the ASCO Annual Meeting, participate in a post-Meeting visit to their Mentor’s institution, and develop long-term relationships to improve cancer care in their countries. In addition, IDEA Recipients will also receive three years of complimentary ASCO membership, including a subscription to the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
In addition, the International Development and Education Award in Palliative Care (IDEA-PC) provides medical education in palliative care, assists with career development, and helps establish strong relationships with leading ASCO members in the field of palliative care who serve as scientific Mentors to each recipient. IDEA-PC Recipients are expected to share the knowledge and training they receive through the program with colleagues in their home countries once they return.
The IDEA-PC program enables recipients to attend sessions at the ASCO Annual Meeting that address symptom management, communication, end-of-life care, and other relevant topics. The program also includes a visit to the Mentor’s U.S. or Canadian institution to experience palliative care performed in a multidisciplinary environment, and provides an opportunity to cultivate long-term professional relationships that will help improve palliative care in the Recipients’ home countries.
Application Instructions
All applications must be submitted in accordance to the requirements and instructions of the International Development and Education Award IDEA Request for Applications and the IDEA-PC Request for Applications. All application materials must be in English and must be submitted through the Grants Portal. Paper applications or applications sent by e-mail or fax will not be accepted. Both IDEA and IDEA-PC applications will open on August 1, 2018, and are due by 5 PM ET on October 31, 2018.

A new call has opened for the YY Study Grants, a unique opportunity to pursue a cancer research collaboration abroad for 3 months.
The application closing date is 15 September 2018
We are pleased to announce a new call for proposals for the 2018 Yamagiwa-Yoshida (YY) Memorial International Cancer Study Grants.
Investigators who want to increase their knowledge and research skills in cancer control can do so through a 3 month international visit.
Unlike previous years, there will be just one call for proposals in 2018, so we encourage you to take advantage of this valuable opportunity.
What are the YY Study Grants?
3 month Study Grants with an award value of up to US$10,000 towards travel and living costs
What kind of project do they fund?
International collaborative cancer research projects
Training in research methods and techniques in basic, translational, implementation or applied cancer research
Exchanges in complementary skills and knowledge in cancer control
Who can apply?
Cancer investigators, including epidemiologists and public health professionals who:
- hold a PhD (or equivalent degree) at least 2 years prior to the YY application closing date
- are actively engaged in basic, translational, implementation or applied cancer research
- have authored recent publications in international peer-reviewed literature

Guerra Contra el Cáncer Latinoamérica: Lucha conjunta, éxito compartido
Septiembre 18, 2018 – Bogotá, Colombia
Desde prevención hasta paliación, Guerra Contra el Cáncer Latinoamérica de The Economist Group tiene como objetivo descubrir formas innovadoras para financiar la atención al cáncer y evaluar tecnologías, políticas y avances científicos que puedan ayudar a los pacientes y frenen la propagación letal del cáncer.
A través de discusiones en profundidad que tienen lugar en todo el mundo, examinaremos los mecanismos y modelos de financiación de los planes de control del cáncer, mejorando el acceso y los resultados para los pacientes en el proceso. Plantearemos formas de involucrar a aseguradores e inversores del sector privado para ayudar a financiar vías de atención del cáncer transparentes, estandarizadas y basadas en el mercado; y evaluar qué nivel de inversión pública y qué tipo de políticas se requieren para respaldar su desarrollo.
Además, examinaremos las innovaciones que están cambiando la forma en la que se estudia y se trata el cáncer y analizaremos qué tipo de colaboraciones deben darse para lograr que la guerra contra el cáncer sea una meta alcanzable.

War on Cancer LATAM: Shared struggles, collective success
September 18, 2018 – Bogota, Colombia
From prevention to palliation, The Economist Group’s War on Cancer initiative aims to uncover innovative ways to fund cancer care, and evaluate technologies, policies and scientific discoveries that could help benefit patients and restrain cancer’s lethal spread.
Through in-depth discussions taking place across the world, we will examine financing mechanisms and models to pay for cancer-control plans, improving access and outcomes for patients in the process. We will consider ways to engage private-sector insurers and investors to help fund transparent, standardised, market-based cancer-care pathways, and evaluate what level of public investment and type of policies are required to support their development. We will then cast our gaze into the future, examining the innovations that are changing the way cancer is studied and treated, and envision what type of collaborations must happen now to make winning the war against cancer an achievable goal.
The aim of this initiative is to catalyse global action: to bring together governments, health-care providers, scientists, technologists and leading thinkers for action-oriented discussions about bridging the gap in cancer funding and reducing the barriers to quality care for all. X Congreso Franco Brasileiro de Oncologia

El X Congreso Franco Brasileiro de Oncologia será realizado en el Hotel Royal Tulip – Rio de Janeiro con un público aproximadamente de dos mil participantes.
Es un evento formado por médicos, residentes, enfermeros, nutricionistas, psicólogos nacionales e internacionales del área de oncología.
El Congreso Franco Brasileiro de Oncologia es considerado uno de los más importantes eventos científicos en el medio oncológico brasileiro gracias a la calidad del programa científico, de los oradores, expertos líderes de opiniòn nacionales e internacionales representando todas las especialidades (cirugía oncológica, oncología clínica, radioterapia, medicina nuclear) de la Comunidad Científica Europea, notablemente la francesa.
Nuestra meta es tener un congreso de punta, innovador, con el objetivo de ofrecer a los participantes un programa científico elaborado cuidadosamente e incluyendo importantes temas basados en evidencias científicas.

II International ecancer Cancer Congress

El 50 ° Congreso de la Sociedad Internacional de Oncología Pediátrica (SIOP) se realizará del 16 al 19 de noviembre de 2018 en Kyoto, Japón. Es un gran honor para nosotros ser sede de una conmemoración conmemorativa del 50 aniversario en Japón.
SIOP tiene como objetivo crear un mundo en el que ningún niño muera de cáncer. Durante los últimos 50 años, las tasas de curación de muchos cánceres pediátricos han mejorado en gran medida. Sin embargo, también es cierto que todavía hay muchos niños con cáncer refractario que no pueden curarse o luchar durante un largo tiempo..
SIOP también tiene como objetivo poner a todos los países del mundo bajo el mismo paraguas para que los pacientes puedan recibir los mismos niveles de diagnóstico, tratamiento y cuidado. Tenemos que trabajar juntos para resolver muchos problemas y desafiar así conjuntamente el futuro.

50th SIOP Congress
November 16-19, 2018 – Kyoto, Japan
The 50th Congress of the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) will be held in November 16-19, 2018, in Kyoto, Japan. It is a great honor for us to host such a memorial 50th anniversary meeting in Japan.
SIOP aims to make a world that no child should die of cancer. For the last 50 years, the cure rates of many paediatric cancers have largely improved. However, it is also true that there are still many children with refractory cancer who cannot be cured or struggle for a long time.
SIOP also aims to put all countries in the world under the same umbrella for the patients to be able to receive equal levels of diagnosis, treatment and care. We must work together to solve many problems and challenge together for the future.

BCRF recibe el Premio Latinoamericano a la Investigación en Cáncer
El Premio Latinoamericano a la Investigación en Cáncer reconoce al individuo o Institución que haya demostrado una acción ejemplar para el progreso y el desarrollo de la investigación independiente en cáncer en la región. En este caso y por primera vez se otorgó a la Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF, USA).
El Premio ha sido otorgado por la Federación Latinoamericana de Mastologia (FLAM), la Red de Institutos Nacionales de Cancer de Latinoamerica (RINC) junto a SLACOM.
El acto de entrega se realizó durante el Congreso de la Sociedad Americana de Oncologia (ASCO) , durante la Reunión de Líderes Mundiales. El Dr. Larry Norton recibió el premio en nombre de BCRF, estando presentes el Presidente de ASCO, la representante de FLAM Dra. Paula Escobar y la representante de RINC Dra. Lucia Delgado y directivos de SLACOM.
BCRF receives the Latin American Prize for Cancer Research
The Latin American Prize for Cancer Research recognizes the individual or Institution that has demonstrated an exemplary action for the progress and development of independent cancer research in the region. In this case and for the first time it was awarded to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF, USA).
The Award has been granted by the Latin American Federation of Mastology (FLAM), the Network of National Institutes of Cancer of Latin America (RINC) with SLACOM.
The award ceremony was made during the Congress of the American Society of Oncology (ASCO), in the space of the Meeting of World Leaders. Dr. Larry Norton received the award on behalf of BCRF, with the presence of the President of ASCO, the representatives of FLAM Dr. Paula Escobar and Dr. Jorge Gallardo, the representative of RINC Dr. Lucia Delgado and directors of SLACOM.

Dr. Eduardo Cazap was recognized by Harvard University, Dana Farber Cancer Center and the Global Health Summit with the Distinguished Leadership Award for his international career and his collaboration to improve cancer control in Africa. Search is underway for candidate(s) for the position described in the enclosed job description. This is for a young pathologist, bilingual, who would be interested in a research fellowship as part of the Pathology Core of our Cancer Center.
The Center has had 5 Latin American pathology fellows in a row, each for 3-4 years. The position is open right now and there is a relative urgency to fill it asap.

Journal of Cancerology is a medical journal that publishes contributions reporting original scientific, clinical, epidemiologic and social research, which contribute to the overall knowledge in the field of the oncology. Each issue of the journal will contain a series of timely in-depth reviews written by leaders in the field and clinical cases.
We require from you, review articles, Clinical Cases and “Hot Topics” for the number 4 of this year and the next!!! We also ask that you contact your national and internacional colleagues.
