War on Cancer Latin America (War on Cancer LATAM) - united against a common enemy, took place on September 19, 2017 in Bogotá, Colombia. This event has been a great opportunity to meet editors of The Economist and share with members of government, academia and industry to assess how the fight against cancer in Latin America should be managed.
It is part of a comprehensive program that extends to Boston, London and Hong Kong, The Economist Events presents War on Cancer in this region for the first time. The program contemplates a generous participation of several Latin American countries, with speakers from Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Chile, Mexico and Colombia.

Lograr una colaboración de investigación en el extranjero
El YY grant provee una importante oportunidad para progresar en la investigación del cáncer a través de colaboración internacional. Su propósito es habilitar a los investigadores del cáncer de cualquier país llevar a cabo proyectos de investigación bilaterales en el exterior que explotan materiales o habilidades complementarias incluyendo la formación avanzada en métodos experimentales o técnicas especiales.
Desde su creación en 1975, el programa YY grant ha contribuido al desarrollo de la capacidad profesional de más de 330 becarios de arriba de 40 países.

The YY grant provides an important opportunity to advance cancer research through international collaboration. Their purpose is to enable cancer investigators from any country to carry out bilateral research projects abroad which exploit complementary materials or skills, including the advanced formation  in experimental methods or special techniques. Since its inception in 1975, the YY grant programme has contributed to the professional capacity development of over 330 Fellows from over 40 countries.

Lanzamiento - Asociado Postdoctoral en Oncologia Global en la Universidad de Miami

El propósito de esta nueva posición es la especialización de un oncólogo en la disciplina de Oncología Global.
Se espera que el médico se desarrolle para poder liderar esfuerzos del control de cáncer, mejorar los resultados clínicos y de salud, dirigir investigaciones de economía de la salud, y propugnar por la mejoría en sus sistemas de salud al regreso a su país de origen.

We are pleased to share the launching of a new position, the Postdoctoral Associate in Global Oncology at the Miller School of Medicine  at the University of Miami (UM). This position is specifically for a Latin American doctor and will last for a period of one year at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center located at UM. The purpose of this new position is the specialization of an oncologist in the discipline of Global Oncology.
The doctor is expected to develop to be able to lead cancer control efforts, improve clinical and health results, conducting health economics research, and advocate for the improvement in their health systems upon return to their country of origin. This position will have a salary of u$s 53,000 a year plus health insurance.

1ra SESIÓN CONJUNTA SIOG LATAM
Octubre 25-28, 2017 – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

SIOG se enorgullece de anunciar su 1ra. sesión conjunta SIOG LATAM en colaboración con la Sociedad Brasilera de Oncología durante la 1ra. Semana Brasilera de Oncología en Rio de Janeiro, Brasil en Octubre 25-28. Este evento está organizado conjuntamente con la Sociedad Brasilera de Oncología Médica, la Sociedad Brasilera de Cirugía Oncológica como así también la Sociedad Brasileña de Oncología Radiológica. Estas sesiones han recibido el apoyo de la Sociedad Brasilera de Geriatría (SBGG).
Dos sesiones de medio día tendrán lugar en Octubre 26 y Octubre 27, 2017 y estarán completamente dedicadas a Oncología Geriátrica.  Estas sesiones contarán con reconocidos oradores de SIOG, así como con sus homólogos brasileños. El objetivo de estas sesiones es proveer a los delegados del congreso con una introducción a la oncología geriátrica se trata de cómo deberían los oncólogos individualizar el enfoque de su tratamiento basado en los riesgos y beneficios de la terapia, qué instrumentos pueden ayudar a los oncólogos a tener un mejor panorama de la situación general de la salud del paciente como así también cómo impacta el cáncer y el tratamiento del cáncer el proceso de envejecimiento del paciente.
El lenguaje oficial de la conferencia es el porgués y se proveerá interpretación simultánea para esta sesión.

1st SIOG LATAM JOINT SESSION
October 25-28, 2017 – Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

SIOG is proud to announce its 1st SIOG LATAM joint session in collaboration with the Brazilian Society of Clinical Oncology during the 1st Brazilian Oncology Week in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from October 25-28. This event is jointly organized by the Brazilian Medical Oncology Society, the Brazilian Surgical Oncology Society as well as the Brazilian Radiation Oncology Society. These sessions have received the support of the Brazilian Society of Geriatrics (SBGG).
Two half-day sessions will take place on October 26 and October 27, 2017 and will be fully dedicated to Geriatric Oncology. These sessions will feature well renowned SIOG speakers as well as their Brazilian counterparts. The goal of these sessions is to provide the congress delegates with an introduction to geriatric oncology which is about how should oncologists be individualizing their treatment approach based on the risks and benefits of therapy, what instruments can help oncologists to have a better view of the patient’s overall health situation as well as how does the cancer and the cancer treatment impact the aging process of the patient.
The official conference language is Portuguese and simultaneous interpretation will be provided for this session.

XVIII Congreso Latinoamericano de Mastología
Noviembre 9-11, 2017 – Hotel Jaragua, Santo Domingo, República Dominicana

Se está preparando la realización del 18° Congreso Latinoamericano de Mastología, a realizarse del 9 al 11 de noviembre en el Hotel Jaragua en Santo Domingo, República Dominicana.

El cáncer de mama es una realidad epidemiológica preocupante en Latinoamérica y el resto del mundo y, particularmente en países en vías de desarrollo, la prevención, diagnóstico y el tratamiento de esta enfermedad que golpea tanto a nuestras mujeres, tiene un doble reto, ya que a veces no contamos con los recursos económicos para cursar las mejores opciones terapéuticas, aunque contamos con expertos en la materia de calidad mundial en todos nuestros países latinoamericanos, cosa que nos debe llenar de mucho orgullo. 
Contaremos con la presencia de personalidades de talla mundial en el manejo del cáncer de mama.

XVIII Latin American Congress of Mastology
November 9-11, 2017 – Hotel Jaragua, Santo Domingo, Dominic Republic

The 18th Latin American Congress on Mastology is being prepared, to take place from 9 to 11 November at the Hotel Jaragua in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Breast cancer is a worrisome epidemiologic reality in Latin America and the rest of the World, particularly in developing countries, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this disease that has such impact in our women, has a double challenge, since we sometimes do not have the economic resources to perform the best therapeutic options, although we have experts in the subject of world quality in all of our Latin-American countries, something which should make us all proud. 
We will count with the presence of world-class personalities in the handling of breast cancer.

Simposio de Oncología Molecular Latinoamericano (SOMLA)

El Simposio de Oncología Molecular Latinoamericano (SOMLA) tiene como objetivo convertirse en un lugar de encuentro en Latinoamérica para oncólogos y otros Licenciados o Doctores del área Biosanitaria con interés en conocer las bases moleculares de la enfermedad tumoral y su implicación en los últimos avances en diagnóstico y terapias.

Symposium on Latin American Molecular Oncology (SOMLA)

The Symposium on Latin American Molecular Oncology (SOMLA) aims to become a meeting place in Latin America for oncologists and other Graduates or Doctors of the Biosanitary area with interest in knowing the molecular bases of the tumor disease and their involvement in the latest advances in diagnosis and therapy.
The city of Lima will receive this first edition of the Symposium next March 7-8, 2018. Modernity, tradition, world reference for its gastronomy, together with its strategic location in a central point in Latin America, has made this city the perfect host of this Symposium.
SOMLA is an appointment that aims to mark a milestone in the agendas of Latin American specialists in Oncology, Hematology, Pathology and Radiotherapy. Publicación del 2do número en 2017
El número más reciente de Cancer Biology & Medicine ha sido publicado recientemente. Puso de relieve las vías que se refieren a la metástasis del cáncer y microambiente tumoral, inmunología oncológica, estrategia novedosa para la detección del síndrome de Lynch, modelo de pronóstico biológico del linfoma difuso de grandes células B, expresión del receptor de vitamina D en melanoma cutáneo, lesiones orales asociadas a quimio-radioterapia en el carcinoma epidermoide oral, etcétera. Esperamos que los artículos de este número beneficien sus investigaciones y práctica clínica.

Special Issue on Cancer Epidemiology
Publication of the 2nd issue in 2017
The latest issue of Cancer Biology & Medicine has been published recently. It highlighted pathways referring to cancer metastasis and tumor microenvironment, oncologic immunology, novel strategy for detection of Lynch syndrome, biologic prognostic model of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, vitamin D receptor expression in cutaneous melanoma, chemoradiotherapy-associated oral lesions in oral squamouscell carcinoma, and so on. We hope the articles of this issue will benefit your research and clinical practice.

Observatorio Latinoamericano del Cáncer

El Observatorio Latinoamericano del Cáncer es un grupo de colaboración que reúne 19 miembros de 9 países y diferentes sectores (médicos, asociaciones de pacientes, instituciones) con el fin de analizar y discutir temas relacionados con el estado del cáncer en la región, y ofrecer recomendaciones para avanzar contra la enfermedad.
El Observatorio surgió de una reunión convocada conjuntamente por la UICC y SLACOM en 2014 en Colombia, en la que se acordaron tres puntos clave de acción prioritaria:

• Detección temprana de la enfermedad (formación médica y tamizaje)
• Acceso a tratamientos (mejor acceso y más oportuno)
• Atención integral (con apoyo multidisciplinario y cuidados paliativos)

Latin American Cancer Observatory (LACO)

The Latin American Cancer Observatory (LACO) is a multi-stakeholder group that gathers 19 members from across nine countries to discuss and analyze topics relevant to cancer in the region, offering recommendations to make progress against the disease. LACO emerged from a meeting jointly convened by UICC and SLACOM in May 2014 in Colombia. On that occasion, its members agreed on three priority areas to improve cancer control in Latin America:

• Early detection of the disease (medical training and screening)
• Access to treatment (better and timely access)
• Holistic care (multidisciplinary support and palliative care)
