Como orgulloso miembro de la Unión Internacional para el Control del Cáncer (UICC), la Sociedad Latinoamericana & del Caribe de Oncología Médica (SLACOM) se honra en apoyar el Día Mundial del Cáncer 2017 en Febrero 4 y de tomar acción para reducir el impacto que él cáncer tiene sobre individuos, familias y comunidades.

Llevándose a cabo bajo el eslogan ‘Nosotros podemos. Yo puedo.’, el Día Mundial del Cáncer 2016-2018 explorará cómo todos – en conjunto ó como individuos – pueden hacer su parte para reducir el problema mundial del cáncer.

Así como el cáncer afecta a todos de diferentes maneras, todas las personas tienen el poder de realizar diferentes acciones para reducir el impacto que el cáncer tiene sobre individuos, familias y comunidades.

El Día Mundial del Cáncer es una oportunidad de reflexionar sobre qué puede hacer, hacer una promesa, y tomar acción. Lo que sea que Ud. elija hacer ‘Nosotros podemos. Yo puedo.’ hace la diferencia en la lucha contra el cáncer.

Observatorio Latinoamericano del Cáncer

El Observatorio Latinoamericano del Cáncer es un grupo de colaboración que reúne 19 miembros de 9 países y diferentes sectores (médicos, asociaciones de pacientes, instituciones) con el fin de analizar y discutir temas relacionados con el estado del cáncer en la región, y ofrecer recomendaciones para avanzar contra la enfermedad.
El Observatorio surgió de una reunión convocada conjuntamente por la UICC y SLACOM en 2014 en Colombia, en la que se acordaron tres puntos clave de acción prioritaria:

• Detección temprana de la enfermedad (formación médica y tamizaje)
• Acceso a tratamientos (mejor acceso y más oportuno)
• Atención integral (con apoyo multidisciplinario y cuidados paliativos)

Latin American Cancer Observatory (LACO)

The Latin American Cancer Observatory (LACO) is a multi-stakeholder group that gathers 19 members from across nine countries to discuss and analyze topics relevant to cancer in the region, offering recommendations to make progress against the disease. LACO emerged from a meeting jointly convened by UICC and SLACOM in May 2014 in Colombia. On that occasion, its members agreed on three priority areas to improve cancer control in Latin America:

• Early detection of the disease (medical training and screening)
• Access to treatment (better and timely access)
• Holistic care (multidisciplinary support and palliative care)

VI Simposio de Gastroenterología Oncológica SLAGO 2017

XXVIII Congreso Latinoamericano de Oncología Pediátrica

Este es un momento clave en la historia de la SLAOP ya que experimenta un gran impulso como sociedad científica de la especialidad en la región, siendo actualmente reconocida como la filial continental de la SIOP (Sociedad Internacional de Oncología Pediátrica).

A lo largo de los 3 días que dura el congreso se llevaran a cabo clases magistrales de ponentes internacionales, contraponiéndose presentaciones de expertos de la región quienes darán una visión experta sobre los problemas locales y regionales, dando espacio para la discusión de las estrategias necesarias para mejorar los resultados a nivel local.

Esperamos contar con el mayor número de asistentes posible del país y de la región, estimando que un total de 300 a 400 asistentes se darán cita en nuestro encuentro. XXVIII Latinamerican Congress of Pedriatic Oncology
April 5- 8, 2017 - Ciudad de Buenos Aires, Argentina

This is a key moment in the history of SLAOP as it experiences a great impulse as scientific society of the specialty in the region, being presently recognized as the continental branch of SIOP (Sociedad Internacional de Oncología Pediátrica).

Throughout the 3 days the Congress lasts there will be master classes from international speakers, opposing presentations from experts of the region who will offer an expert vision about local and regional problems, giving space for the discussion of the necessary strategies to improve the results at local level.

3er ESO-ESMO Masterclass Latinoamericano en Oncología Clínica
Abril 26-30, 2017 - San José, Costa Rica

La Masterclass es la actividad ESO más estructurada cuyo formato ha sido establecido y presentado en Europa por más de una década.  El suceso del método de enseñanza ha sido confirmado por los eventos llevados a cabo también en otras partes del mundo como así también por la primera y segunda edición de la Masterclass Latinoamericana realizada en Brazil y Colombia en 2015 y 2016. Es con placer y agradecimiento a la consideración de la comunidad local, que ESO anuncia la tercera edición a realizarse en la región en 2017. La Masterclass ofrece conferencias plenarias discutiendo actuales temas y controversias como también analizando críticamente significativos desarrollos terapéuticos.

La Masterclass ofrece conferencias plenarias sobre la evaluación clínica y tratamientos de vanguardia con referencia a guías clínicas y que concluye en los mensajes finales. Las sesiones clínicas serán complementadas  con panel de discusiones de tumor apoyada por tutores regionales. Más aún, los participantes entregarán presentaciones de casos dentro de pequeños grupos y discutirlos con los chairs y profesores. En preparación de la asistencia, a los participantes se les solicitará cubrir cuatro sesiones e-ESO seleccionadas (www.e-eso.net). Todos los participantes residirán en la sede del curso y la participación es obligatoria durante todo el curso.

3rd ESO-ESMO Latin-American Masterclass in Clinical Oncology
April 26-30, 2017- San Jose, Costa Rica

The Masterclass is the most structured ESO educational activity whose format has been established and presented in Europe for over a decade. The success of the teaching method has been confirmed by the events held also in other parts of the world as well as by the first and second edition of the Latin American Masterclass held in Brazil and Colombia in 2015 and 2016. It is with pleasure and gratefulness for the consideration of the local community, that ESO announces the third edition to be held in the region in 2017. The Masterclass offers plenary lectures discussing current issues and controversies as well as critically reviewing significant therapeutic developments.

The Masterclass offers plenary lectures regarding state-of-the-art clinical evaluation and treatments with reference to clinical guidelines and which will conclude in take-home messages. The clinical sessions will be complemented by tumour board discussions supported by regional tutors. Furthermore, participants will deliver case presentations within small groups and discuss these with the chairs and the faculty. In preparation of the attendance, participants will be requested to follow four selected e-ESO sessions (www.e-eso.net). All participants will reside at the course venue and participation is compulsory throughout the course.
The Masterclass will be entirely in English and at least an intermediate level of English is necessary for admission.

El Congreso de la Sociedad Internacional de Oncología Pediátrica (SIOP) se realizará en Octubre 12-15, 2017 en Washington, D.C., USA. 
La visión de SIOP es que ningún niño debe morir de cáncer y apunta a mejorar y optimizar los tratamiento a través del mundo.
Cada año, el congreso SIOP se destaca por sesiones atractivas impartidas por expertos de renombre mundial. XVIII Congreso Latinoamericano de Mastología
Noviembre 9-11, 2017 – Hotel Jaragua, Santo Domingo, República Dominicana

Se está preparando la realización del 18° Congreso Latinoamericano de Mastología, a realizarse del 9 al 11 de noviembre en el Hotel Jaragua en Santo Domingo, República Dominicana.

El cáncer de mama es una realidad epidemiológica preocupante en Latinoamérica y el resto del mundo y, particularmente en países en vías de desarrollo, la prevención, diagnóstico y el tratamiento de esta enfermedad que golpea tanto a nuestras mujeres, tiene un doble reto, ya que a veces no contamos con los recursos económicos para cursar las mejores opciones terapéuticas, aunque contamos con expertos en la materia de calidad mundial en todos nuestros países latinoamericanos, cosa que nos debe llenar de mucho orgullo. 
Contaremos con la presencia de personalidades de talla mundial en el manejo del cáncer de mama.

XVIII Latin American Congress of Mastology
November 9-11, 2017 – Hotel Jaragua, Santo Domingo, Dominic Republic

The 18th Latin American Congress on Mastology is being prepared, to take place from 9 to 11 November at the Hotel Jaragua in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

Breast cancer is a worrisome epidemiologic reality in Latin America and the rest of the World, particularly in developing countries, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this disease that has such impact in our women, has a double challenge, since we sometimes do not have the economic resources to perform the best therapeutic options, although we have experts in the subject of world quality in all of our Latin-American countries, something which should make us all proud. 
We will count with the presence of world-class personalities in the handling of breast cancer.
