La trágica muerte de Oliver Sánchez, el "niño de la pancarta" que sufría de cáncer y conmovió a Venezuela

Oliver Sánchez murió el martes con apenas 8 años y toda una vida por delante: soñaba con ser bailarín, inventor o bombero.

Pero este niño venezolano también tenía cáncer y no conseguía medicinas para curarse. 
"Se te mueren los pacientes porque no hay con qué tratarlos" 

Por eso, el 26 de febrero pasado se sumó a las protestas en Caracas contra la escasez de medicamentos en su país. 

Su imagen pidiendo un fármaco para la quimioterapia, portando un cartelito escrito a mano por él, 

"Quiero curarme. Paz y Salud", se volvió viral en los medios de comunicación y las redes sociales de Venezuela y otras partes del mundo.

Observatorio Latinoamericano del Cáncer

El Observatorio Latinoamericano del Cáncer es un grupo de colaboración que reúne 19 miembros de 9 países y diferentes sectores (médicos, asociaciones de pacientes, instituciones) con el fin de analizar y discutir temas relacionados con el estado del cáncer en la región, y ofrecer recomendaciones para avanzar contra la enfermedad.
El Observatorio surgió de una reunión convocada conjuntamente por la UICC y SLACOM en 2014 en Colombia, en la que se acordaron tres puntos clave de acción prioritaria:

1. Detección temprana de la enfermedad (formación médica y tamizaje)
2. Acceso a tratamientos (mejor acceso y más oportuno)
3. Atención integral (con apoyo multidisciplinario y cuidados paliativos)

Latin American Cancer Observatory (LACO)

The Latin American Cancer Observatory (LACO) is a multi-stakeholder group that gathers 19 members from across nine countries to discuss and analyze topics relevant to cancer in the region, offering recommendations to make progress against the disease. LACO emerged from a meeting jointly convened by UICC and SLACOM in May 2014 in Colombia. On that occasion, its members agreed on three priority areas to improve cancer control in Latin America:

1. Early detection of the disease (medical training and screening)
2. Access to treatment (better and timely access)
3. Holistic care (multidisciplinary support and palliative care)

Se otorgarán:

Becas a estudiantes avanzados, con un estipendio mensual de $ 8.000.-

Becas a graduados, con un estipendio mensual de $12.000.-

Becas a estudiantes de posgrado y posgraduados con un estipendio mensual de $14.500.-

Las Becas de Investigación en Cáncer 2016 tendrán una duración de UN (1) año calendario, entre agosto de 2016 y agosto 2017.

Primer Reporte Anual de la Red Argentina de Cáncer Familiar (RACAF)
Red creada en el año 2013

La RACAF es una red creada en 2013 por el Plan Nacional de Tumores Familiares y Hereditarios (PROCAFA), que tiene por objetivo unificar esfuerzos e iniciativas tendientes a mejorar el abordaje de la población de alto riesgo de cáncer en Argentina. En esta publicación se da cuenta de los ejes de acción de la Red, los últimos resultados y las instituciones que ofrecen asesoramiento genético oncológico.

Los tipos de artículos incluyen Informes Originales, Revisión, Comentarios, Correspondencia, Artículos Especiales, Informes de Casos, y Editoriales.

El Curriculum de Verano de NCI en Prevención del Cáncer

NCI quiere compartir con Uds. una excelente oportunidad de entrenamiento: El Curriculum de Verano de NCI en Prevención del Cáncer ahora está aceptando solicitudes.  Este curso de verano de cuatro semanas provee instrucción especializada en los principios y práctica de prevención y control del cáncer.  Los participantes ganarán una amplia perspective en conceptos, temas, y aplicaciones relativas a este campo.  Para más detallada información, favor ir a link inferior.

El Centro de Salud Global proveerá apoyo para viajes para un número limitado de participantes de países Latinoamericanos. El apoyo para viajes incluye alojamiento y por día durante la duración del curso; los participantes serán responsables de su propio vuelo a Washington DC. Siéntanse libres de pasar la información a aquellos in su red que podrían estar interesados.  El programa está particularmente apto para candidatos que sean relativamente junior, pero tienen gran potencial para hacer un impacto sustancial.

The NCI Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention

I wanted to share with you an excellent training opportunity: The NCI Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention is now accepting applications. This four-week summer course provides specialized instruction in the principles and practice of cancer prevention and control. Participants will gain a broad-based perspective on concepts, issues, and applications related to this field. For more detailed information, please see link below.

The Center for Global Health will be providing travel support for a limited number of participants from Latin American countries. Travel support includes lodging and per diem during the duration of the course (July 6th – July 29th, 2016); participants will be responsible for their own flight to Washington DC. Feel free to pass the information below onto those in your network who would be interested. The program is particularly well suited for candidates who are relatively junior, but have great potential to make a substantial impact.

ESMO Congreso 2016

IX CONGRESO FRANCO-BRASILERO DE ONCOLOGÍA

Afortunadamente la tecnología ha realizado avances que permiten generar pautas para la detección temprana y cuya difusión por medio de canales educacionales especializados en línea ha favorecido la disminución y toma de conciencia de la enfermedad. Así también, nos hemos mantenido al ritmo de la difusión del cáncer conociendo los avances quirúrgicos, y radioterapéuticos y el beneficio en el desarrollo de los nuevos fármacos.

November 17-18, 2016 – Bogota, Colombia

On behalf of ecancer and the Colombian League Against Cancer, it is a great pleasure and an honor to warmly invite you to attend the “ecancer Oncology Congress/ Colombian League Against Cancer” to take place on November 17 and 18 of 2016, in the city of Bogota, Colombia.
The Congress will focus on the recent progress in Oncology including modules in s en Gastrointestinal cancer, Gynecologic, breast, prostate, lung and palliative care. In the setting of the event there will be a course in Radiotherapy.
Fortunately, technology has made progress that allow to generate guidelines for the early detection and its diffusion through specialized online educational channels have favored the reduction and awareness on the disease. Also, we have kept pace with the diffusion of cancer knowing the surgical and radiotherapeutic progress and the benefit in the development of new drugs.

Están Uds. invitados a asistir a la 7ma. Conferencia Interamericana de Oncología “Actual Estado y Futuro de Terapias Dirigidas Anti-Cáncer” “Actual Estado y Futuro de Terapias Dirigidas Anti-Cáncer” que tendrá lugar en Buenos Aires, Argentina en Octubre 5 y 6, 2017.

You are invited to attend to the 7th InterAmerican Oncology Conference “Current Status and Future of Anti-Cancer Targeted Therapies” that will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina on October 5th and 6th, 2017.
An outstanding faculty of speakers from the United States and Europe has committed to participate in this meeting. The conference agenda will focus on new translational advances in the treatment of cancer as well as provide updates of conventional therapies for a number of the most common tumor types.
The meeting objectives are designed to introduce the audience to the latest information on targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and emerging treatments in early development. The major emphasis will be on clinical aspects of cancer treatment in the 21st century with discussion of significant scientific advances underlying the novel approaches still in preclinical development.
The meeting does not charge a registration fee and the presentations are translated into Spanish in real time for the attendees.
