Observatorio Latinoamericano del Cáncer
El Observatorio Latinoamericano del Cáncer es un grupo de colaboración que reúne 19 miembros de 9 países y diferentes sectores (médicos, asociaciones de pacientes, instituciones) con el fin de analizar y discutir temas relacionados con el estado del cáncer en la región, y ofrecer recomendaciones para avanzar contra la enfermedad.
El Observatorio surgió de una reunión convocada conjuntamente por la UICC y SLACOM en 2014 en Colombia, en la que se acordaron tres puntos clave de acción prioritaria:
- Detección temprana de la enfermedad (formación médica y tamizaje)
- Acceso a tratamientos (mejor acceso y más oportuno)
- Atención integral (con apoyo multidisciplinario y cuidados paliativos)

Latin American Cancer Observatory (LACO)
The Latin American Cancer Observatory (LACO) is a multi-stakeholder group that gathers 19 members from across nine countries to discuss and analyze topics relevant to cancer in the region, offering recommendations to make progress against the disease. LACO emerged from a meeting jointly convened by UICC and SLACOM in May 2014 in Colombia. On that occasion, its members agreed on three priority areas to improve cancer control in Latin America:
- Early detection of the disease (medical training and screening)
- Access to treatment (better and timely access)
- Holistic care (multidisciplinary support and palliative care)

Año 2016
El Instituto Nacional del Cáncer abre su convocatoria nacional a becas anuales 2016 de investigación básica, clínica, epidemiológica, social y en implementación en cáncer para estudiantes avanzados, graduados y posgraduados.
Se otorgarán:
Becas a estudiantes avanzados, con un estipendio mensual de $ 8.000.-
Becas a graduados, con un estipendio mensual de $12.000.-
Becas a estudiantes de posgrado y posgraduados con un estipendio mensual de $14.500.-
Las Becas de Investigación en Cáncer 2016 tendrán una duración de UN (1) año calendario, entre agosto de 2016 y agosto 2017.

Primer Reporte Anual de la Red Argentina de Cáncer Familiar (RACAF)
Red creada en el año 2013
La RACAF es una red creada en 2013 por el Plan Nacional de Tumores Familiares y Hereditarios (PROCAFA), que tiene por objetivo unificar esfuerzos e iniciativas tendientes a mejorar el abordaje de la población de alto riesgo de cáncer en Argentina. En esta publicación se da cuenta de los ejes de acción de la Red, los últimos resultados y las instituciones que ofrecen asesoramiento genético oncológico.

The RACAF is a network created in 2013 by the National Plan of Familial and Hereditary Tumors (PROCAFA), whose objective is to unify efforts and initiatives tending to improve the approach of the population with high cancer risk in Argentina. In this publication an account is given on the action lines of the Network, the last results and the institutions that offer oncologic genetic advice.

Journal of Global Oncology (JGO) es una nueva revista solo-online, de acceso abierto que satisface una necesidad creciente por literatura de alta calidad en la variedad de desafíos que los profesionales de la salud en escenarios de recursos limitados enfrentan en cuidar pacientes con cáncer y para llevar a cabo investigación.
Los tipos de artículos incluyen Informes Originales, Revisión, Comentarios, Correspondencia, Artículos Especiales, Informes de Casos, y Editoriales.
Aquellos autores cuyas ponencias son aceptadas para publicación se requiere que paguen un cargo por procesamiento del artículo (APC). Sin embargo, los APCs serán perdonados hasta Junio 30, 2016. Aprenda más y presente su investigación hoy en www.jgo.org.

Article types include Original Reports, Reviews, Commentaries, Correspondence, Special Articles, Case Reports, and Editorials.

“Ganando la guerra contra el cáncer”
Mayo 12-13, 2016 – Buenos Aires, Argentina
Se hace llegar a través de esta vía información (flyer y programa) sobre el Simposio que se está organizando "La guerra contra el cáncer" junto con el Ministerio de Ciencia y Tecnología. El simposio será realizado en el Aula Magna (Pabellón 2) de la Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales de la Universidad de Buenos Aires (Ciudad Universitaria).
El simposio abarca temas desde aspectos genéticos, inmunológicos, metabólicos y nuevas terapias. Se contará con la presencia del Premio Nobel "Jack Szostak" y científicos argentinos trabajando en cáncer en USA como Mostoslavsky, Sabattini, Gutkind, Espinosa y Melnick.
La entrada es totalmente libre y la inscripción es hasta el 20 de abril al email laguerracontraelcancer@gmail.com. Habrá becas para jóvenes del interior que presenten abstracts para presentaciones orales y posters.
International Symposium ROOTS Program – Nework of Argentine Scientists in Northeast USA
“Winning the war against cancer”
May 12-13, 2016 – Buenos Aires, Argentina
By this means information is sent (flyer and program) on the Symposium that is being organized "The war against cancer" jointly with the Ministry of Science and Technology. The Symposium will take place at the Assembly Hall (Pavilion 2) of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires (University City).
The Symposium includes topics such as genetic, immunological, metabolic and new therapies. Will have the attendace of Nobel Prize "Jack Szostak" and argentine scientists working with cancer in the US, such as Mostoslavsky, Sabattini, Gutkind, Espinosa and Melnick.

XXVII Congreso Latinoamericano de Oncología Pediátrica
Mayo 19-21, 2016 – Lima, Perú
La misión de SLAOP es optimizar el tratamiento de los niños con cáncer residentes en Latinoamérica, con orientación a la totalidad de los aspectos de la enfermedad y atendiendo las necesidades generadas en su familia y grupos de pertenencia. Entre sus variados objetivos se destacan: establecer registros epidemiológicos certeros; consolidar e incrementar los grupos cooperativos de trabajo; definir protocolos de tratamientos basados en evidencia.
El Comité Organizador nos informa sobre el próximo congreso de la SLAOP a realizarse en la bella ciudad de Lima, Perú, país elegido como organizador en reunión de delegados de la Sociedad llevada a cabo en Puebla, México en Abril del 2015.

XXVII Latinamerican Congress of Pediatric Oncology

SLAOP’s mission is to optimize the treatment of children with cancer residing in Latin America, with orientation to the totality of the diseases’ aspects and assisting the needs generated in their families and community group. Among its various objectives various stand out: establish accurate epidemiologic records: consolidate and increase cooperative working groups; define treatment protocols based on evidence.
The Organizing Committee informs on the next Congress of the SLAOP to take place in the beautiful city of Lima, Peru, country chosen as organizer in meeting of the Society’s delegates which took place in Puebla, Mexico in April 2015.

I Simposio Internacional de Cáncer de Mama
Junio 13-15, 2016 – Costa Rica
El cáncer no respeta edades, pero las personas por encima de los 60 años, están más expuestas a desarrollar enfermedades crónicas que causan el 63% de las muertes en el mundo. La Organización Mundial de la Salud pronostica que esta proporción llegará al 70% en los próximos diez años, encabezando la lista las muertes por cáncer.
Dentro de los objetivos que se van a recalcar en el Simposio están: mejorar el adecuado tratamiento de los pacientes con cáncer; uniformar el criterio histopatológico en los reportes en todos los departamentos de patología; realizar control de calidad en los centros de imagenología, tanto privados como públicos, y para que llenen las expectativas de las recomendaciones con relación a los equipos y el entrenamiento de los radiólogos en estas patologías; crear en Costa Rica un centro nacional de biología molecular y genética, fundamental por los avances en estas nuevas dimensiones en el tratamiento del cáncer. Y, lo más importante, activar lo más pronto posible la red oncológica nacional, asi como implementar la red nacional de cuidados paliativos.

I International Symposium on Breast Cancer
June 13-15, 2016 – Costa Rica
Cancer doesn’t respect age, but those persons over 60 years, is more exposed to develop chronic Diseases that cause 63% of deaths around the world. The World Health Organization forecasts that this proportion will reach 70% in the coming ten years, topping the list deaths by cancer.
Within the objectives that are going to be stressed in the Symposium are: improve the adequate treatment of cancer patients; standardize the histopathology criterion in the reports of all pathology departments; perform quality control in the imaging centers, whether private or public, and that they fulfill the expectations of the recommendations regarding to equipment and the training of the radiologist in this pathologies; create in Costa Rica a national center of molecular biology and genetics, fundamental due to advances in these new dimensions in the treatment of cancer. And, most important, activate as soon as possible the national oncology network, as well as implement the national network of palliative care.

El Curriculum de Verano de NCI en Prevención del Cáncer
Julio 6-29, 2016 – Bethesda, Maryland, USA
NCI quiere compartir con Uds. una excelente oportunidad de entrenamiento: El Curriculum de Verano de NCI en Prevención del Cáncer ahora está aceptando solicitudes. Este curso de verano de cuatro semanas provee instrucción especializada en los principios y práctica de prevención y control del cáncer. Los participantes ganarán una amplia perspective en conceptos, temas, y aplicaciones relativas a este campo. Para más detallada información, favor ir a link inferior.
El Centro de Salud Global proveerá apoyo para viajes para un número limitado de participantes de países Latinoamericanos. El apoyo para viajes incluye alojamiento y por día durante la duración del curso; los participantes serán responsables de su propio vuelo a Washington DC. Siéntanse libres de pasar la información a aquellos in su red que podrían estar interesados. El programa está particularmente apto para candidatos que sean relativamente junior, pero tienen gran potencial para hacer un impacto sustancial.

The NCI Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention

I wanted to share with you an excellent training opportunity: The NCI Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention is now accepting applications. This four-week summer course provides specialized instruction in the principles and practice of cancer prevention and control. Participants will gain a broad-based perspective on concepts, issues, and applications related to this field. For more detailed information, please see link below.
The Center for Global Health will be providing travel support for a limited number of participants from Latin American countries. Travel support includes lodging and per diem during the duration of the course (July 6th – July 29th, 2016); participants will be responsible for their own flight to Washington DC. Feel free to pass the information below onto those in your network who would be interested. The program is particularly well suited for candidates who are relatively junior, but have great potential to make a substantial impact.

ESMO Congreso 2016

2016 World Cancer Congress: From Melbourne...to Paris to “Mobilise action – Accelerate change”.
October 31-November 3, 2016 – Paris, France
More than 3’500 cancer experts will travel to Paris to discuss the latest cancer trends and projections, learn about best practices in science implementation and meet their peers from around the world.
Since 2011, our World Cancer Congresses have been known for providing great intellectual and social interaction for the participants.
Join the hosts: French League Against Cancer and ALIAM for the 2016 World Cancer Congress to be held from 31 October to 3 November in Paris, and discover what is in store in the coming years.
What is there for me?
Lots...a lively programme will be designed in collaboration with UICC’s members and partners, and will expose the Congress participants to a large choice of sessions, interactive debates, workshops, capacity building schemes within the five cancer control tracks:
Track 1 - Stemming the tide: innovations in prevention and screening
Track 2 - Closing the gap: quality cancer treatment and diagnosis for all
Track 3 - Improving patient and family experiences
Track 4 - Strengthening cancer control: optimising outcomes of health systems
Track 5 - Empowering civil societies: building capacity for change - NEW!
We will be having 2 sessions in Spanish at the Congress. They are coordinated by INCan Mexico, FEMAMA and LALCEC Argentina. It is a good incentive for Latin Americans to come.

IX CONGRESO FRANCO-BRASILERO DE ONCOLOGÍA
Noviembre 10-12, 2016 – Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil
La Sociedad Franco-Brasilera de Cáncer en Brasil, la cual organiza sus congresos cada dos años se llevará a cabo en Rio de Janeiro. El Congreso Franco-Brasilero de Oncología ES ahora el referente científico brasilero en cáncer, el nivel científico de programación y speakers internacionales, muchos de ellos viniendo a Brasil exclusivamente para el Congreso. El IX Congreso Franco-Brasilero de Oncología tiene el apoyo de todas las sociedades médica en oncología, como así también la colaboración oficial con el Consulado de Francia en Brasil y el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores. IX CONGRESS FRANCO BRAZILIAN ONCOLOGY
November 10-12, 2016 – Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
The Brazilian Franco Cancer Society in Brazil, which organizes its congresses every two years will be held in Rio de Janeiro. The French-Brazilian Oncology Congress is now the Brazilian scientific reference in Cancer, the scientific level of programming and international speakers, many of them coming to Brazil exclusively for the Congress. The IX Congress Franco-Brazilian Oncology has the support of all medical societies in oncology, as well as the official partnership with the Consulate of France in Brazil and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Topics to be addressed include the entire area of clinical oncology as well as radiation therapy, and surgery mastology, with greater emphasis on clinical oncology. The Radiotherapy Days, Lung, Molecular Genetics and Oncology, as well as cancer genetics, clinical research in Brazil are also highlights of the scientific program.
