La RACAF es una red creada en 2013 por el Plan Nacional de Tumores Familiares y Hereditarios (PROCAFA), que tiene por objetivo unificar esfuerzos e iniciativas tendientes a mejorar el abordaje de la población de alto riesgo de cáncer en Argentina. En esta publicación se da cuenta de los ejes de acción de la Red, los últimos resultados y las instituciones que ofrecen asesoramiento genético oncológico.

First Annual Report of the Argentine Network on Familial Cancer (RACAF)
Network created in the year 2013
The RACAF is a network created in 2013 by the National Plan of Familial and Hereditary Tumors (PROCAFA), whose objective is to unify efforts and initiatives tending to improve the approach of the population with high cancer risk in Argentina. Journal of Global Oncology (JGO) es una nueva revista solo-online, de acceso abierto que satisface una necesidad creciente por literatura de alta calidad en la variedad de desafíos que los profesionales de la salud en escenarios de recursos limitados enfrentan en cuidar pacientes con cáncer y para llevar a cabo investigación.
Los tipos de artículos incluyen Informes Originales, Revisión, Comentarios, Correspondencia, Artículos Especiales, Informes de Casos, y Editoriales.

VIII Congreso de la Asociación Latinoamericana para Cuidados Paliativos
Abril 14-16, 2016 – Ciudad de México, México
La Asociación Internacional para Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC) se complace en anunciar 15 (quince) becas del IAHPC Traveling Scholarship Program, para ayudar financiar el viaje de trabajadores de cuidados paliativos en países en desarrollo al VIII Congress of the Latin American Association for Palliative Care (Asociacion Latinoamericana de Cuidados Paliativos - ALCP). El Congreso ALCP tundra lugar en el Hotel Royal Pedregal en Ciudad de Mexico.
Los postulantes deben vivir en un país en desarrollo, ser miembros activos de IAHPC y de ALCP, y trabajando activamente en cuidados paliativos. Inscripciones de médicos, enfermeras, sicólogos y otras disciplinas son bienvenidas.

VIII Congress of the Latin American Association for Palliative Care
April 14-16, 2016 – Mexico City, Mexico
The International Association for Hospice and Palliative Care (IAHPC) is pleased to announce 15 (fifteen) scholarships from the IAHPC Traveling Scholarship Program, to help support the travel of palliative care workers in developing countries to the VIII Congress of the Latin American Association for Palliative Care (Asociacion Latinoamericana de Cuidados Paliativos - ALCP). The ALCP Congress will take place at the Hotel Royal Pedregal in Mexico City.
Applicants must be living in a developing country, be active members of IAHPC and of ALCP, and actively working in palliative care. Applications from physicians, nurses, psychologists and other disciplines are welcome.
If you wish to apply for the Traveling Scholarship and are not member of IAHPC or ALCP, you may join through the corresponding websites: IAHPC website and ALCP website
Applications to the IAHPC Traveling Scholarship are available through the IAHPC website
Preference will be given to individuals who have not received an IAHPC grant in the past three years with accepted poster or oral presentations in the Congress and to individuals living and working in developing countries in the Latin American and Caribbean Region. If applicable, please send proof of acceptance of the poster or oral presentation, along with a copy of your current CV. Selected grantees will also be eligible to receive a discounted registration fee from the Congress.
Deadline to apply is December 31st, 2015. Results will be announced by January 2016.

V Congreso Uruguayo de Neurocirugía
Abril 20-22, 2016 – Montevideo, Uruguay
Mensaje del Presidente, Dr. Fernando Martínez:
Estamos cerca de que comience el V Congreso Uruguayo de Neurocirugía, que se desarrollará del 20 al 22 de abril de 2016 en Montevideo. Ha sido un camino largo donde aprendimos que organizar un congreso no es tarea fácil e involucra mucha gente a la que hay que agradecer. Desde los colegas que vendrán del el exterior a aportarnos su conocimiento, hasta los colegas y amigos nacionales que han dedicado su tiempo y energías de forma anónima, pasando por los residentes, enfermeras, instrumentistas y colegas de otras especialidades con quienes compartimos nuestro trabajo diario.
Es con este espíritu que intentamos organizar este congreso: que todos quienes nos vemos involucrados en el tratamiento de personas con tumores del sistema nervioso, podamos ofrecer lo mejor de cada uno. Por ello intentamos abarcar todas las áreas de interés y nuestro invitado de honor es el Profesor Hugues Duffau, referente actual de la neuro-oncología mundial.
Espero que el congreso sea del mayor provecho para todos nosotros, ya que en última instancia redundará en un beneficio para nuestros pacientes.

V Uruguayan Neurosurgery Congress

Message of President, Dr. Fernando Martínez:
We are close to the beginning of the V Uruguayan Neurosurgery Congress, to take place from 20 to 22 April, 2016 in Montevideo. It’s been a long road were we learned that organizing a congress is no easy task and involves a lot of people to be thanked. From the colleagues coming from abroad to provide their knowledge, to the national colleagues and friends who have dedicated their time and energy anonymously, going through the residents, nurses, instrumentalist and colleagues of other specialties with which we share our daily work.
It’s with this spirit that we tried to organize this congress: that all those who are involved in the treatment of people with persons with tumors of the nervous system, are able to offer the best of each one. Due to this we try to encompass all the areas of interest and our guest of honor is Professor Hugues Duffau, the current referent of global neuro-oncology.
I hope that the Congress results in the greatest advantage to us, as ultimately it will result in a benefit for our patients.

1er Simposio Internacional de ecancer en Radioterapia

1st International Symposium of ecancer in Radiotherapy

XXVII Congreso Latinoamericano de Oncología Pediátrica

XXVII Latinamerican Congress of Pediatric Oncology

SLAOP’s mission is to optimize the treatment of children with cancer residing in Latin America, with orientation to the totality of the diseases’ aspects and assisting the needs generated in their families and community group. Among its various objectives various stand out: establish accurate epidemiologic records: consolidate and increase cooperative working groups; define treatment protocols based on evidence.

I Simposio Internacional de Cáncer de Mama
Junio 13-15, 2016 – Costa Rica
El cáncer no respeta edades, pero las personas por encima de los 60 años, están más expuestas a desarrollar enfermedades crónicas que causan el 63% de las muertes en el mundo. La Organización Mundial de la Salud pronostica que esta proporción llegará al 70% en los próximos diez años, encabezando la lista las muertes por cáncer.
Dentro de los objetivos que se van a recalcar en el Simposio están: mejorar el adecuado tratamiento de los pacientes con cáncer; uniformar el criterio histopatológico en los reportes en todos los departamentos de patología; realizar control de calidad en los centros de imagenología, tanto privados como públicos, y para que llenen las expectativas de las recomendaciones con relación a los equipos y el entrenamiento de los radiólogos en estas patologías; crear en Costa Rica un centro nacional de biología molecular y genética, fundamental por los avances en estas nuevas dimensiones en el tratamiento del cáncer. Y, lo más importante, activar lo más pronto posible la red oncológica nacional, asi como implementar la red nacional de cuidados paliativos.

I International Symposium on Breast Cancer
June 13-15, 2016 – Costa Rica
Cancer doesn’t respect age, but those persons over 60 years, is more exposed to develop chronic Diseases that cause 63% of deaths around the world. The World Health Organization forecasts that this proportion will reach 70% in the coming ten years, topping the list deaths by cancer.
Within the objectives that are going to be stressed in the Symposium are: improve the adequate treatment of cancer patients; standardize the histopathology criterion in the reports of all pathology departments; perform quality control in the imaging centers, whether private or public, and that they fulfill the expectations of the recommendations regarding to equipment and the training of the radiologist in this pathologies; create in Costa Rica a national center of molecular biology and genetics, fundamental due to advances in these new dimensions in the treatment of cancer. And, most important, activate as soon as possible the national oncology network, as well as implement the national network of palliative care.

El Curriculum de Verano de NCI en Prevención del Cáncer

NCI quiere compartir con Uds. una excelente oportunidad de entrenamiento: El Curriculum de Verano de NCI en Prevención del Cáncer ahora está aceptando solicitudes. Este curso de verano de cuatro semanas provee instrucción especializada en los principios y práctica de prevención y control del cáncer. Los participantes ganarán una amplia perspective en conceptos, temas, y aplicaciones relativas a este campo. Para más detallada información, favor ir a link inferior.
El Centro de Salud Global proveerá apoyo para viajes para un número limitado de participantes de países Latinoamericanos. El apoyo para viajes incluye alojamiento y por día durante la duración del curso; los participantes serán responsables de su propio vuelo a Washington DC. El programa está particularmente apto para candidatos que sean relativamente junior, pero tienen gran potencial para hacer un impacto sustancial.

The NCI Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention

I wanted to share with you an excellent training opportunity: The NCI Summer Curriculum in Cancer Prevention is now accepting applications. This four-week summer course provides specialized instruction in the principles and practice of cancer prevention and control. Participants will gain a broad-based perspective on concepts, issues, and applications related to this field. For more detailed information, please see link below.
The Center for Global Health will be providing travel support for a limited number of participants from Latin American countries. Travel support includes lodging and per diem during the duration of the course (July 6th – July 29th, 2016); participants will be responsible for their own flight to Washington DC. Feel free to pass the information below onto those in your network who would be interested. The program is particularly well suited for candidates who are relatively junior, but have great potential to make a substantial impact.

Caeiro, Luis M.Correa Urquiza, Normando Arenas & Horacio L. Mazza who integrated the Commission who created the Argentine Cancer Society.

ESMO Congreso 2016

IX CONGRESO FRANCO-BRASILERO DE ONCOLOGÍA

La Sociedad Franco-Brasilera de Cáncer en Brasil, la cual organiza sus congresos cada dos años se llevará a cabo en Rio de Janeiro. IX CONGRESS FRANCO BRAZILIAN ONCOLOGY

The Brazilian Franco Cancer Society in Brazil, which organizes its congresses every two years will be held in Rio de Janeiro. The French-Brazilian Oncology Congress is now the Brazilian scientific reference in Cancer, the scientific level of programming and international speakers, many of them coming to Brazil exclusively for the Congress. The IX Congress Franco-Brazilian Oncology has the support of all medical societies in oncology, as well as the official partnership with the Consulate of France in Brazil and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
