Foro para Mejorar el Control del Cáncer en América Latina
Mayo 5-6, 2014 – Bogotá, Colombia

Convocado conjuntamente por la Unión Internacional Contra el Cáncer (UICC) y la Sociedad Latinoamericana y del Caribe de Oncología Médica (SLACOM), el Foro para Mejorar el Control del Cáncer en América Latina se celebró recientemente en Colombia, con el objetivo de promover el intercambio multi-sectorial de conocimiento y la colaboración entre actores clave de distintos países de la región en el área de oncología.

Diecinueve líderes médicos y representantes de asociaciones de pacientes de nueve países de América Latina se reunieron el 5 y 6 mayo de 2014 en Bogotá. El Dr. Eduardo Cazap, ex presidente de la UICC, presidió la reunión. El foro consistió de deliberaciones interactivas, dirigidas por un moderador, en formato de mesa redonda y con sesiones de grupos pequeños. La discusión se centró en el estado actual del control del cáncer en la región, las principales metas y desafíos, así como acciones prioritarias para mejorar la prevención, el diagnóstico, el acceso al tratamiento y la atención, y la calidad de vida del paciente. Estos temas fueron analizados desde tres perspectivas diferentes – individuo, instituciones de salud y políticas públicas - identificando cuestiones clave en cada caso.

Como resultado de la reunión, se elaborará un informe que resuma las discusiones del grupo y siente las basespara el plan de acción recomendadoa fin de mejorar el control del cáncer en América Latina. El foro fue recibido muy positivamente por todos los participantes, y por ello se espera que el grupo interdisciplinario continúe trabajando conjuntamente en esta iniciativa.

La reunión fue apoyada por un patrocinio sin restricciones de Bayer HealthCare.

Forum to Improve Cancer Control in Latin America
Mayo 5-6, 2014 – Bogotá, Colombia

Jointly convened by UICC and the Latin American and Caribbean Society of Medical Oncology (SLACOM), the Forum for Improving Cancer Control in Latin America was recently held in Colombia, with the aim to promote multi-sector and cross-country knowledge-sharing and collaboration among key oncology stakeholders in the region.

Nineteen leading physicians and NGO representatives from nine countries in Latin America gathered on May 5-6, 2014 in Bogota. Dr. Eduardo Cazap, past president of UICC, was the official chairman of the meeting. The forum consisted of interactive, professionally moderated roundtable discussions and small group sessions. They focused on the current status of cancer control in the region, main goals and challenges, as well as priority actions on how to improve prevention, diagnosis, access to treatment and care, and patient quality of life. Topics were analyzed from three different perspectives – individual, healthcare institutions, and public policy – identifying key issues in each case.

As a result of the meeting, a report will be developed providing an overview of the group’s discussions and setting the basis for a recommended action-plan to improve cancer control in Latin America. The forum was received very positively by all participants and as such, it is expected that the interdisciplinary group will continue to work together on this initiative.

The meeting was supported by an unrestricted grant from Bayer HealthCare.

Campaña “Hablemos de Cáncer"
Ministerio de Salud de Argentina lo presenta para derribar mitos sobre la enfermedad

Es una estrategia de comunicación del Ministerio de Salud de la Nación con el fin de visibilizar la problemática a través de una página web y mensajes difundidos por las redes sociales.
Con el fin de visibilizar una problemática signada por los mitos, el silencio, el desconocimiento y el miedo, por primera vez en Argentina se lanza desde el ámbito público una campaña de comunicación que, bajo el lema "Hablemos de Cáncer", invita a reflexionar, intercambiar, compartir y conocer más sobre una enfermedad que puede prevenirse, diagnosticarse, tratarse y muchas veces curarse.

Se trata de una iniciativa que el Ministerio de Salud de la Nación, a cargo de Juan Manzur, presenta en el marco del Día Mundial contra el Cáncer, que se conmemora cada 4 de febrero, y tiene como principales canales de difusión la página web www.msal.gov.ar/hablemosdecancer y las redes sociales. La campaña fue desarrollada por la Secretaría de Comunicación Pública de la Presidencia de la Nación, la Coordinación de Información Pública y Comunicación de la cartera sanitaria nacional y el Instituto Nacional del Cáncer (INC).

Campaign “Let’s talk about Cancer"
The Argentine Ministry of Health presents it to destroy myths about the disease

It’s a communication strategy from the Ministry of Health with the objective to highlight the problem through a web page and messages spread through the social networks.
In order to make visible a problem marked by the myths, the silence, the unawareness and the fear, for the first time in Argentina a communication campaign is launched from the public arena that, under the motto “Let’s talk about Cancer", invites to think, exchange, share and know more about a disease which can be prevented, diagnosed, treated and more often, cured.

It is an initiative that the Ministry of Health, in charge of Juan Manzur, presents in the framework of World Cancer Day, which is celebrated each 4th of February, and has as its main broadcasting channels the web page www.msal.gov.ar/hablemosdecancer and social networks. The campaign was developed by the Secretariat of Public Communication of the Presidency, the Coordination of Public Information and Communication of the national health portfolio and the National Cancer Institute (INC).

Realizado cada 2 años desde 2004 ACORD es un workshop intensivo interactivo  en métodos de investigación clínica y desarrollo de protocolo abierto para investigadores del cáncer en todas las sub-especialidades oncológicas de Australia y la región Asia Pacífico.
Sesenta participantes son seleccionados a través de un competitivo proceso de inscripción se une en el  Workshop. Los participantes representan una amplia gama de antecedentes oncológico, con especialidades incluyendo disciplinas Médica, Quirúrgica, Psico, Neuro, Ginecología, Cabeza y Cuello y Radiación Oncológica, Hematología, Farmacología, Enfermeria, Cuidados Paliativos y Asociados a la Salud. Cada participante recibe orientación y asistencia individual de los profesores con los protocolos que han seleccionado para desarrollar en el Workshop, y trabajar colaborativamente con sus pares internacionales. El workshop está apoyado por American Society for Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia, the Medical Oncology Group of Australia y el Cancer Council Australia.

Australia & Asia Pacific Clinical Oncology Research Development Workshop (ACORD) 2014
September 14-20, 2014, Sunshine Coast, Australia

Held every 2 years since 2004 ACORD is a 1-week, intensive interactive workshop in clinical research methods and protocol development open for cancer researchers in all oncology subspecialties from Australia and the Asia Pacific region.
Sixty participants are selected through a competitive application process to join in the Workshop. Participants represent a wide range of oncology backgrounds, with specialities including Medical, Surgical, Psycho, Neuro, Gynaecology, Head and Neck and Radiation Oncology, Haematology, Pharmacology, Nursing, Palliative Care and Allied Health disciplines. Each participant receives individual guidance and assistance from the faculty with the protocols they are selected to develop at the Workshop, and work collaboratively with their international peers. The workshop is supported by the American Society for Clinical Oncology, the American Association for Cancer Research, the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia, the Medical Oncology Group of Australia and the Cancer Council Australia.

e-oncoreviews: son sesiones mensuales diseñadas para ofrecer un balance y análisis exhaustivo sobre un tópico específico, sea un tipo de tumor, un tipo de terapia, diagnóstico o enfoque terapéutico. The European School of Oncology in co-operation with Nature Reviews Clinical Oncology and Critical Reviews in Oncology Hematology is holding a series of distance learning programmes on the Internet, called 'e-sessions': e-grandrounds and e-oncoreviews.
e-grandrounds: are weekly sessions on hot-topics organised without commercial sponsorship and are CME and ESMO-MORA accredited.
e-oncoreviews: are monthly sessions designed to offer a balance and comprehensive overview on a specific topic, be it a tumour type, a type of therapy, diagnostic or therapeutic approach. Some e-oncoreviews are organised in collaboration with the School's sponsors, whilst ESO-organised sessions are held in co-operation with Nature Reviews in Clinical Oncology and Critical Reviews in Oncology Hematology and CME and ESMO-MORA accredited.

Participants are invited to attend the sessions live:
- e-grandrounds: every Thursday at the same time (18:15-19:00 CET)
- e-oncoreviews: the first Tuesday of the month at the same time (18:15-19:00 CET)
- or the Recorded Session that is available 24 hours after the session live.
In both modes, attendants participate in remote, without webcam and without appearing in the system.

Questions can be sent in advance to the Discussant who will discuss them with the Expert and consider to cover them during the live presentation. During the live session, participants have the opportunity to submit text questions and comments that are received by the Discussant who puts them to the Expert. Questions submitted during the live session are answered to during the session directly!
